Seattle Lake Instruction Session - Lake Sammamish State Park

Seattle Open Water lake session for students of the basic course

  • For Beginners (Getting Started Series)
  • Mileage: 9.0 nm

Plan to meet at Tibbetts Beach at Lake Sammamish State Park no later than 8:00 am.  There will be volunteers on site to assist with registration and preparation for the open water session.  You will be off the water by 4:00 pm.

Leader Notes: This activity is only open to individuals who register for the Seattle Sea Kayaking Basics course. If you are enrolled in this course, you must also register for the Open Water Skills sessions offered. The session runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Be prepared to get wet and have fun!

Directions:

From I-90 Eastbound take exit 15 to SR900 – 17th Av NW

  1. At the bottom of the offramp, turn Left towards Lake Sammamish
  2. At the 'Y' at NW Sammamish Road turn Left
  3. Turn right into Lake Sammamish State Park (0.4mi)
  4. About 200ft past the Entrance Station, turn Left into the large parking lot
  5. Drive to the far end of the parking lot nearest the lake and park

As this is a state park, a Discover Pass is required to be displayed in your car.  If you do not have a pass, you can purchase either a one day ($10) or an annual pass ($30) at the office near the entrance to the park.
