Flatwater Packrafting Course: experience trip

Field trip: Introduction to Flatwater Packrafting

Flatwater Packrafting Course: experience trip - Sauk River: Darrington to Skagit River

Paddle the lower Sauk river - scenic and sometimes sporty. This section of river gives a sense of what a day on a remote river is like.

  • Class I River
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 16.0 mi

The lower Sauk river is our intended objective but we may change to a different river depending on conditions.   The river will be somewhere north of Seattle and meeting time will be 9:00am.

Provisional:  meet at the Faber Boat launch at 9:00 to arrange the car shuttle.

The lower Sauk river is generally a broad, fast moving river flowing through a scenic valley.  There are some sporty sections - mainly wave trains - with good recovery pools below.  The 16 mile distance is actually covered fairly easily with assist from the current.  That is not to say that we just float down the river.  We will be paddling down river most of the time, at a moderate pace.   This is a good trip for people who wish to get a feel of what a day on a big river trip is like.
