Basic Whitewater Packrafting Course - Field Trip #2 - Green River: Franklin to Auburn

On this field trip we will go to a local class II river to practice some basic whitewater paddling skills.

  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 3.0 mi

We will meet at the take out at Whitney Bridge Park in Auburn at 8:30 a.m. unless otherwise notified by email by the primary leader. 

We  plan to be off the river by early afternoon.  The focus will be the skills shown below. 

PADDLING SKILLS

  • Launch into current
  • Back-ferry across a class II current
  • Paddling through boulder gardens
  • Catching onshore eddies, boulder eddies, and eddy hopping
  • Paddling through class II wave trains
  • Surfing small waves
  • Managing boat speed by back-paddling and sideways floating
  • Team rescue, partner assist, and self-rescue

You must supply your own packraft, paddle, PFD, helmet, dry suit, waterproof whistle, oversize close-toe river shoes, warm layers, extra dry clothing and dry shoes, snacks.
