To sign up:

Before you can sign up for this eLearning Workshop as a student, you first need to sign up and pay for the "Wilderness Navigation Course " (the link to that course is to the right).  Instructors do not need to pay.

Please prepare in advance by purchasing your Compass, Maps, and Book as described on the Course Page (link to the course page is to the right).

This is the first of four components, and must be completed prior to the third activity, the In-Person Workshop.  It is required to complete the course, and is not an optional component. There are no prerequisites.

You are allotted 2 weeks to finish this activity. If you cannot finish in that time, please move to another scheduled eLearning Workshop.  This will open space for people on the waitlist and help our volunteers manage the course better.  The course has five eLearning opportunities in the spring of 2019 between January and March.

ONLINE WORKSHOP:

The eLearning Workshop is an online course that provides the foundation for the activities that follow. It is not optional and is not a substitute for other components in the Seattle version of the course.  Please consider your ability to work independently and  set aside the time you'll need to complete this course (It takes approximately 4 to 5 hours, not including the reading time.

On the start date, you'll receive an email with a link to the Learning Management System (a separate system from Mountaineers.Org).  A volunteer instructor will be assigned to help you, to answer questions, etc.   You may work the modules in any order and  you must complete at least 87% of the online modules to be deemed complete.    The computer system requirements are listed in the Course Materials tab of the Course Page.

Compass and Maps:

See Required Equipment tab on the main Course Page. You need an approved compass and a USGS Baring map for this eLearning workshop.  Only specific compasses will be accepted, so before purchasing a compass make sure to read our compass requirements.

Rescheduling or cancellation:

If you cannot finish this workshop in the two-week time allotted, please change your registration to another eLearning Workshop event.

We treat this activity the same as any kind of in-person activity.  If you don't begin, you'll be marked as a no-show.  If you don't finish, you'll be marked as unsuccessful. Please plan your activities so you can dedicate your Online time within your allotted two-week period.

If you begin the Online Course and then change your registration to another date, you will keep your login to the system, keep your position in the Online course, and just have a new completion date for our volunteer instructors to track against.   Just remember to complete this eLearning workshop prior to your scheduled In-Person Workshop.

You can make changes on your own, prior to the registration close dates, or you can contact the course leader or member services to cancel or make changes.
