Lecture - Cascade B 1/23/18 7-9pm

Field Trip - 1/27 Redmond Watershed. Meeting location: P&R underneath I-5 and 3-4 aisles north of 65th. Time 9:30am. If you want to meet at Redmond Watershed please e-mail not later than 7:30 am Saturday morning.

Driving instructions: Take 520 to it's end in Redmond and continue straight ahead passing through a light. In about one mile +- turn right on Novelty Hill Road. Shortly, you will come to a round about. Go up the hill to the left and continue about another mile. There is a sign indicating the turn into Redmond Watershed.

Mosses and lichens abound and shine in the Pacific Northwest during the winter. For teaching purposes we will use the moss & lichen key charts developed by Stewart Hougen. These charts make it relatively easy to get a start on moss, liverwort, and lichen identification. Bring a 10X or more jewelers magnifying loupe to enhance viewing. One source of loupes is the University of Washington Bookstore. Experience shows that the best loupes are ones that have an independent light source. A field trip at a local park January 27 will help fill out our learning.

For the field trip figure there will be some light rain (decreasing after 10 o'clock). But bring a raincoat and an umbrella and a small pack to put your class book in. Don't forget your loupe.

The hiking is very easy and rather short. I would expect the entire field trip to take less than four hours.
