We will meet at 9:00AM at the Sunrise Visitor Center at the far end of the parking lot. This early start is necessary in order to avoid the long line of cars entering the Park later. Be aware that the entrance fee to the Park is $25 per car if you don't already have a pass. Problematic weather - snow, hail, heavy rain will cancel - leader will notify you.
If you have never been to Sunrise, this area will astonish you. It is a true Alpine zone with stunning views of Rainier and possible mountain goat sightings.
Actual destination is dependent upon snow level and group fitness. Although this is considered a easy/moderate hike, we may be covering up to eight miles and 1000' elevation gain, so please plan accordingly.
Trekking poles for balance would be very helpful. There may be patches of snow - traction devices may be useful if you have them (microspikes) but not absolutely necessary. Sun protection is vital.
We may be spending up to six or seven hours at a slow/moderate pace on this outing. Please do not plan to attend events that would cause you to rush home in the evening.
There will be opportunities to filter water for hydration, ( I will be bringing a filter to lend) but try to bring enough to last you through the day (3 liters).
