Field trip: Introduction to the Natural World Course
Field Trip 4 - Seattle Naturalists Intro Natural World Course - Burroughs Mountain
This is a prime area for a large variety of alpine wildfowers as well as a front row seat to Mount Rainier. This is not the profuse flower meadows of Paradise or Spray Park since the area is much drier, but the thin soil and rock crevices support gardens of beautiful and intriguing species.

Meet at the Visitor Center at the far end of the parking lot near the restrooms at 9:30AM.
This can be a somewhat challenging hike since the area is sun-exposed and can be hot. Bring at least 2 liters of water since none is available on the trail. Bring lunch and a sit pad. Sun protection - sun hat, sunscreen, lip balm also advised. Wear good hiking shoes. The Visitor Center sells a Burke Museum Flower Guide for Mount Rainier for $10 that will easily identify all of the flowers we will see and is highly recommended and a lot of fun to use. Count on at least 6-7 hours of hiking and almost a thousand feet of elevation gain. If you have never been to this area you are in for a treat. By all means bring your camera!
