CHS 2 Hike - Wilderness Peak

Field trip: Conditioning Hiking Series

CHS 2 Hike - Wilderness Peak

CHS hike led at a CHS 2 pace (2.0-3.0 mph)

  • Moderate
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 7.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,000 ft
  • Pace: 2.0-3.0 mph

Because of the limited parking at the trailhead, we will meet at 7:30 a.m. on the east side of the first floor of the Issaquah Transit Center, located at SR 900 and Newport Way, Issaquah, WA 98027.  Note that the parking entrance is just south of the Eastside Fire & Rescue Station 72 located at 1575 NW Maple Street, Issaquah, WA 98027.

From Seattle, take exit 15 off of I-90 E.  Turn right onto WA-900 W/17th Ave. NW, then turn left onto NW Maple St.  Turn right at the first street (unmarked), pass the Fire & Rescue Station, and then turn right into the covered parking area.

Wilderness Peak is the highest point in the Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park trail system.  This loop hike offers a diversity of steep, forested hillsides, huge, mossy boulders, and a low, swampy area traversed via a narrow boardwalk.

The map for this hike is Green Trails Cougar Mountain / Squak Mountain,  No. 203S.  I expect that we will hike the Wilderness Creek Trail, Deceiver Trail, and Shy Bear Trail to the Far Country Viewpoint, then back via the Shy Bear Trail to the Wilderness Peak Trail, and then down the Wilderness Cliffs Trail to return to the parking area via the Wilderness Creek Trail.

I will send more information to you via email a few days prior to the hike.
