CHS 2 Hike - Pete & Spectacle Lakes

Field trip: Conditioning Hiking Series

CHS 2 Hike - Pete & Spectacle Lakes

We will begin our hike at Mineral Creek TH. In about 5 miles, after some significant elevation gain, we will be rewarded with views of Spectacle Lake as we hike along the PCT. The hike down to Pete's Lake is no less wonderful as we ford creeks on a log and a bridge and see some peaks of The Enchantments in the distance. We will likely have the company of PCT thru hikers. Let's see if we can learn their trail names! I met a guy named Wrong Way ;-). He was headed the right way when we met up!! Graduation Hike - CHS hike led at a CHS 2 pace (2.0-3.0 mph).

Weather: Please check the local weather the night before and the morning of the hike at NWS here.  The long range forecast looks good!

If the trail conditions and or the weather is unfavorable, the hike will be canceled or reschedule for a different location.

Please be ready to wear a mask if you are carpooling. Please stay home if you are sick!

Sturdy water-proof footwear and trekking poles are recommended. The trail maybe quite muddy, very steep with loose dirt and gravel, or rocky in certain places. Sunscreen and/or protective clothing is recommended as there is little no tree-cover on certain sections of the trail and full sun-exposure as we hike through the meadows and along the PCT.

Of note, there are couple of creek crossings over logs.  Pics of these crossings will be provided in the hello hiker letter.  You can choose to cross in the water if you’re comfortable doing so; but please bring water shoes as your hiking boots will likely be completely submerged.

Vault toilets are available at Pete’s Lake TH.  No facilities at Mineral Creek TH.

We will stop for a well-deserved lunch break at Spectacle Lake as we take in the spectacular views.  Please bring small, energizing snacks that are easily consumed during our short 3-5 minute breaks that you can eat on the go! Hopefully, the berries are in full bloom for us to snack on as we hike along.

My co-leader, Jacqui, and I, are looking forward to sharing this beautiful hike with you. More details about this hike will be provided in the “Hello Hiker” email.
