Field trip: Conditioning Hiking Series

CHS 2 Hike - Lime Kiln Trail

CHS hike led at a CHS 2 pace (2.0-3.0 mph)

  • Easy
  • Easy
  • Mileage: 7.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 625 ft
  • Pace: 2.0-3.0 mph

For this CHS hike, we are asking that the participants wear a mask or face shield while hiking as the hike leaders have immediate family members that have a high risk for severe Covid illness.

Meet at 8:45 AM at the trailhead to be ready to start hiking at 9:00 AM.  Available parking at the trailhead is limited to 35-40 cars.  No parking pass is needed.  There is no privy at the trailhead so, if needed, plan to stop at Granite Falls which is a couple of miles before the trailhead.

We plan to stop for snacks, but will not be breaking for lunch. We should be back to the trailhead around noon.

Located in the North Cascades, this is an unusual hike through a very mossy forest and along a narrow river canyon, past sites that were important in local history. There are a few different scenes; glowing moss, shady trees, waterfalls, and down to the river.

The trail is in great condition, but there are a few places we'll have to step over trees or walk under them. Because of the downed trees and the potential for mud, consider wearing gaiters and bringing hiking poles. We'll maintain a CHS2 pace for this early season CHS hike.
