CHS 2 Hike - Fragrance & Lost Lakes

CHS hike led at a CHS 2 pace (2.0-2.5 mph). A hike in the Chuckanut area to popular Fragrance Lake, a stop at the Cyrus Gates Overlook, and then on to more remote Lost Lake.

  • Mileage: 11.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,900 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 1,828 ft
  • Pace: 2.0-2.5 MPH

We will take the Fragrance Lake Trail up to and around Fragrance Lake, and then take the Double Black Diamond trail over to the Cyrus Gates Overlook, where, weather permitting, we'll have views out over the islands of Puget Sound.  If the bugs aren't too bad (and they can be awful), we can take our lunch break here.  Then we will take the Rock Trail (my favorite trail on Chuckanut!) and the South Lost Lake Trail down to secluded Lost Lake.  If the bugs were too bad earlier, we will take our lunch break here at the lake.  We'll return to the trailhead via the South Lost Lake Trail and the Fragrance Lake trail.

We'll meet in the parking lot across Chuckanut Drive from the Fragrance Lake Trailhead at 8am.  There are restrooms available in the adjacent campground at Larrabee State Park.  A Discover Pass is required for parking.  Note that due to the current closure of part of Chuckanut Drive (rock slide), we will have to approach the trailhead by driving around the north side of Chuckanut through Fairhaven.

Carpool option:  Meet at the Ash Way Park and Ride at 6:30AM to carpool to the trailhead.  The driving distance is 71.8 miles, one way, all on paved roads.

Post-Hike Meal Option: There are several options in Fairhaven, including Ovn Wood Fired Pizza, Colophon Cafe, and Acme Valley Ice Cream Cafe.  We can discuss during the hike.
