9am at the Thunder Knob Trailhead.
Take Highway 20 east past Newhalem. Cross Gorge Lake, and follow the shoreline of Diablo Lake until you reach Colonial Creek campground, past milepost 130. Turn left and park at the trailhead to the right of the campground entrance.
A two-for-one deal: we will be doing two separate hikes on this trip. First, a short warm-up on Thunder Knob (3.6 miles, 600' gain). Afterward we will caravan to the trailhead for Diablo Lake (7.6 miles, 1400' gain).
A great chance to explore two shorter trails that usually wouldn't justify the long drive on their own.
