  • Mileage: 8.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,500 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 484 ft
  • Pace: 2.0-3.0 mph

We will meet at 9:00 a.m. in the parking lot immediately south of the Deception Pass bridge on Whidbey Island.  Please be geared-up and ready to hike at 9:00 a.m.

You will need a Discover Pass to park at Deception Pass.

Note that we will not be hiking at Bowman Bay, as indicated by the trip title, so please do not park in the Bowman Bay parking area.  We are in the process of requesting the club to add a new route to the hiking database for Sharpe Park/Montgomery Duban Headlands Park.

We will start our day by hiking down to North Beach, then over to the sand dunes along West Beach, and then back to the Deception Pass Bridge via the wooded North Beach Trail.  Crossing under the bridge, we will hike the Goose Rock Perimeter Trail and then head up to Goose Rock at 484 feet.  After having a snack and enjoying the amazing summit views, we will return to the parking lot and drive to Sharpe Park/Montgomery Duban Headlands Park.  I expect that we will hike almost every trail in this incredibly beautiful county park, which is filled with forests, wetlands, rocky bluffs, and spectacular views.

The map for this hike is Green Trails - Deception Pass Anacortes Community Forest Lands (ACFL) - Map 41S.
