CHS 2 Hike - Baldy (Yakima Canyon)
This hike out of the Yakima Canyon near Ellensberg and Eastern WA means a better chance of fair weather! It's a good but steep trail leading out of the Yakima Canyon and up Baldy Mt., providing possible bighorn sheep sightings along with views of The Winding Yakima River nearby and Mount Stuart, Mount Rainier, and Mount Adams in the distance. CHS 2 hike led at a pace of 2.0-3.0 mph.

Meet at Preston Park and Ride, Exit 22 off of I-90 at 7:30am for carpooling. It's 106 miles from there to our Trailhead in the Yakima Canyon across from the Big Pines Campground.
This is a short, somewhat steep trail that leads to some mountaintop cell phone towers. The views back down to the winding Yakima River are really quite lovely and our chances at distant Mountain views are almost guaranteed with the Eastern WA weather more likely to be clear. It should be dry but be prepared for colder possibly windier conditions.
