CHS 1 Hike

Field trip: Conditioning Hiking Series

CHS 1 Hike - Surprise Lake & Mountain

Come along on a CHS graduation hike to Surprise Mountain, site of an old fire lookout. No surprises here, just great views of two scenic alpine lakes, Mt. Daniel and the Cascades.

  • Strenuous, Very Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 15.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 4,100 ft
  • High Point Elevation: 6,330 ft
  • Pace: 1.5-2.0 mph

Please meet promptly at 7:45 AM at the Skykomish Ranger Station.

We'll caravan from the Skykomish Ranger Station to the trailhead as it is a bit tricky to locate.

I'm planning to be on the trail by 9:00 AM.

We'll stop by Surprise and Glacier Lakes then head up to Surprise Mountain to take in the views of Mount Daniel and Glacier Peak and the Cascades.

The trail is well travelled, no special equipment needed. Just bring along the ten plus essentials.

This will be a long hike and therefore a long day. I don't expect to get back to the cars until late afternoon.
