CHS 1 Hike

Field trip: Conditioning Hiking Series

CHS 1 Hike - Navaho Pass

CHS hike led at a CHS 1 pace (1.75-2.25 mph)

  • Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 11.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,000 ft
  • Pace: 1.75-2.25 mph
Let’s meet at the Stafford Creek Trailhead at 8:30 AM to stay ahead of the crowds and find parking.  A Northwest Forest Pass or Senior Pass is required for parking. More specific details to follow via email.
This is one of the classic Teanaway area hikes and features riparian delights, wildflowers, interesting geology, and ultimately an excellent view of the Stuart Range.  The trail along Stafford Creek provides a long warm-up with an average 5.4 degree incline for the first 3.8 miles to a trail junction, followed by switch-backs to a pleasant meadow and then a short walk through a ‘moonscape’ to the pass and stunning views.
This hike is in the “go-getter” category because it exceeds the maximum distance by 1.0 mile with 1,000 feet more elevation than the CHS 1 range for June.
Please consider bringing poles and traction devices as needed.  Some snow could be encountered at higher elevations but is generally not an impediment to success.  Trail conditions will be assessed prior to the trip.
