CHS 1 Hike - Lower Big Quilcene

The moss-lined route which follows the Lower Big Quilcene River starts on an old roadbed through younger forest and then winds past large old-growth cedars. Blooming rhododendrons should add vibrant color to this hike! Hike at CHS1 pace (1.5-2.0 mph).

Leave the Mountlake Terrace Center  Park & Ride  at 630am in order to carpool and meet the 7:10am Edmonds Ferry.  Alternatively, meet at the Hood Canal Ranger District Quilcene Station at 8:30am.  Drivers will need a NW Forrest or Senior Pass. There will be an  optional stop at Quilbilly in Quilcene for an outside after hike social and then will take an evening ferry back from Kingston.

The hike will go for a short distance after cossing the bridge over the Lower Big Quilcene River at Camp Jolley.

Total round trip driving distance via Edmonds ferry from the Mountlake Terrace Center  Park & Ride is 82 miles.  Drivers should be reimbursed at the suggested CHS rate of 10 to 15 cents per mile.  In addition, the ferry cost is $20,90 each way for the car plus a one way fee from Edmonds to Kingston of $9.25 for adults age 19-64 and $4.60 for adults age 65+.  Ferry costs should be split equally among all car occupants.
