When hiked at the end of May, the trail tread was in excellent condition with very few tree roots or mud spots. The grade is fairly constant at about 450 to 500 feet per mile for the first 5 miles where almost all of the altitude gain is achieved. Most of the hike is shaded with a little over a mile in open exposure. By the time of this hike, there will most likely no running streams available for refilling water bottles.
