CHS 1 Hike

Field trip: Conditioning Hiking Series

CHS 1 Hike - Lake 22

CHS hike led at a CHS 1 pace (1.5-2.0 mph). See mountain rain forests, old-growth, wetlands, and mountain views of Whitehorse Mountain, Three Fingers, and Mt Pilchuck on this hike as well as the cirque lake at the destination.

  • Easy/Moderate
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 5.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,400 ft
  • Pace: 1.5 - 2.0 mph

Since parking is limited at the trailhead and this hike is popular, we will leave at 7:30 AM from the SW corner of Ash Way Park & Ride (16327 Ash Way, Lynnwood) and drive 38 miles to the trailhead. A NW Forest Pass will be needed for drivers. There is a privy available at the trailhead.

Slightly more elevation than the typical CHS 1 hike, but we will take adequate breaks as we climb to have lunch at the Lake.  When I last hiked this trail two years ago in the middle of April, there were still a section that had snow near the top of the trail and a few inches of snow at the lake.  Therefore, expect to brink traction devices and have something to sit on at the lake. There also may be several small creeks to cross on the lower sections of the trail.

After the hike, we will stop in Granite Falls for a snack, most likely at Hanky Pies.
