CHS Alumni Hike - Wallace Falls & Lake

Resolving to hike more? Ring in the New Year with a hike to three beautiful waterfalls and serene Wallace Lake. We will take the Woody Trail Up past the three falls and the Greg Ball Trail back down. Expected to go at a high CHS1/Low CHS2 pace. Need to have Covid-19 Vaccine Administrative Badge and be a Seattle CHS alumnus.

  • Mileage: 10.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,800 ft
  • Pace: 2ish

Leave the Brickyard Road Park and Ride, 15530 Juanita Woodinville Way NE in Bothell, at 8:00AM.  Alternatively meet at the Wallace Falls trailhead in Gold Bar at 8:45 am.  We expect to start the hike at 9:00 AM.  A rest room is available at the trailhead.  Discover Pass is needed for drivers.

The trail should be in good condition overall. The trail does becomes progressively rockier with tree roots across the tread above the second falls and there is a short unmaintained section through private property above the third falls.  This time of the year, the trail is sure to be muddy in some spots and there is usually at least a 100 foot long muddy section with several inches of water near Wallace Lake so both gaiters and hiking poles are recommended.  Depending on the amount of water in the muddy section determined by a scouting hike, we may take a less scenic bypass  on the DNR road to the Lake.  There can obviously be rain and there can be snow accumulated on the trail so be prepared to bring rain gear and microspikes.

While the Mountaineers site gives 9.5 miles and 1500 feet of gain for the hike, I have  recorded 10.5 miles and 1800 foot gain for the hike.

We will stopping at all three falls for a look and then at Wallace Lake for a snack/lunch.  While the More details will be sent in the Hello Hiker letter.
