Coastal Backpacking Field Trip - Ozette Triangle

Two nights on the ocean near Lake Ozette. One at Sand Point and one at Wedding Rocks. We will explore either Ericson Bay, Yellow Banks or both on Saturday. Sunday we will explore the low tidelands at Cape Alava.

Meet at Noon Friday at the parking lot adjacent to the TH.  This arrival time coordinates well with both the 7:05 Seattle to Bainbridge Island  and 7:10 Edmonds to Kingston Ferries.  Allowing foks about 30 minutes of leeway to stop along the way and/or get a loaner bear canister at the WIC office in Port Angeles Ranger Station. An entrance fee or America the Beautiful pass is required to park at Ozette area of Olympic National Park.   Additional permit fee of $17 for two nights backcountry and reservation.  Please bring small bills to reimburse the leader for the permit-No Paypal.

Covid-19:  Participants are required to be fully-vaccinated and provide a copy of their CDC card to the Backpack Leader for this trip.

Preliminary Plan is to camp one night at Sand Point and one night at Wedding Rocks.  First night would be at Sand Point. Excellent low tides will be available  between 10 and 11 AM on Saturday and Sunday to explore tide pools. On Saturday morning we will explore further South to Yellow Banks (nice cliffs) or East to Lake Ozette/Ericson Bay or do some portion of both. We will then return to Sand Point and pack up and head North to the Wedding Rocks for night two.  We will have a fire on night two at Wedding Rocks camp. We will head further North on Sunday, stopping at the tidepools at Cape Alava to explore (bring water shoes), before taking the northern trail back to the TH.
