Obstruction Point TH in Olympic NP, entrance fee needed for each entry per vehicle.  Time 10:30am.  Note: last few miles of road are gravel with some drop off in places.

Come enjoy the famed Grand Valley in Olympic National Park, known for its subalpine lakes, wildflower meadows, marmots, and views.  While this is a relatively easy backpack trip for the rewards, it will involve a fair amount of elevation gain and descent, so please be prepared.  Your leaders will seek to build a sense of community among all participants, so please look forward to actively joining in that process.

Day 1: After meeting at the trailhead, we will hoist packs and head out into the tundra-like slopes of Obstruction Point.  Views abound.  We will then drop through multiple switchbacks into the bowl of Grand Lake, but then head up valley to Moose Lake, hopefully in good time to locate a designated campsite that will fit all of us.  4 miles with 780' gain and 1800' loss.

Day 2: From our basecamp at Moose Lake, we will day hike up to Grand Pass at the head of Grand Valley, and then take the way trail to Grand Pass Peak, looking down into the Cameron Creek valley below.  If we have more fuel in our tanks, we can do other exploring as desired.  4 miles with 1600' gain and loss before any additional exploring.

Day 3: We will take an alternate route back to our cars at Obstruction Point, dropping past Grand Lake and down into the Badger Valley, before climbing sometimes steeply back up into the bowls below Obstruction Point, and closing our loop.  5 miles with 2220' gain and 1200' loss.

Covid considerations:  As with all things of late, please be flexible and cautious and cancel off if any sign of illness.

Cost: There is a $17/ person cost for the permits that have been reserved.  Please bring along cash to reimburse leader for the cost of the permits.

A note about cancellation: The Olympic National Park requires the permit to be finalized a week (or so) before the trip. Anyone signed up for the trip at the cancellation date/time is committed to paying the $17 cost (simply because the leader would be stuck with the cost)
