Basic Backpacking Gearpalooza

Field trip: Basic Backpacking

Basic Backpacking Gearpalooza - Mountaineers Seattle Program Center

  • Casual

Seattle Program Center.   9:00am - 1:00pm.

Backpackpacking Gearpalooza  is an opportunity to check out a lot of backpacking gear all in one place, and to talk with experienced Backpacking leaders and instructors about that gear: how it works, why they chose it, what they like about it, what they don't, etc.  The goal is to give you as much information as possible before you make your own gear purchases.

Students will rotate through a number of stations each with a particular category of gear: tents, sleep systems, stoves, water filters, etc.   Leaders and instructors will be available at each station to describe the various options, answer questions, etc.  Some stations will be outdoors, so please dress appropriately.

Some details about the 2021 Backpacking Gearpalooza are currently unknown because of COVID-19.  Our goal is to make the event as hands-on and interactive as possible and to have the whole class on site at the same time, however that may not be possible depending on the health guidelines that are in effect in April.  For example, it's possible that students may not be able to handle all the gear directly, and that we may need to split the group into separate morning and afternoon sessions.  We will do the best we can given conditions.  Details are TBD and will be announced no later that the second lecture.
