9AM at Marblemount Ranger Station, Hwy 20

We will hike in 3.5 miles to Ruby Pasture Camp, a backcountry camp with a view above Ross Lake and set up camp, then day hike up the East Bank trail for about 3 miles to Roland Camp (or as far as trail conditions allow). On the second day, we have options for other hikes in the area before returning to the trailhead. The trails in this area are generally well-maintained and close to level, allowing for easy walking.

About Basic Backpacking Field Trips

The Basic Backpacking Field Trip, or "student backpack", is the final scheduled activity of the Basic Backpacking Course.   For most students it will be their first overnight trip in the backcountry.  Student backpacks are usually single-night trips along Easy or Moderate routes that do not present any unusual technical challenges.
