Backcountry Ski Clinic: Planning and Traveling in Avalanche Terrain

Learn and practice trip planning and traveling in avalanche terrain. Students will also be able to practice avalanche rescue scenarios in the snow.

Interested in practicing trip planning skills and the ability to apply the NWAC forecast to plan your ski tour? Want to refresh your avalanche rescue skills? This course is intended to practice skills in backcountry ski trip planning, reading and interpreting the NWAC forecast, applying the forecast to your trip plan, snow observations in the field, and avalanche rescue practice. This course consists of an evening lecture and day-long field trip practicing skills. The intended audience for this course is both new backcountry skiers and experienced backcountry skiers who want a refresher.

Note:
This course does not replace AIARE's Level-1 or Avalanche Rescue Course.
It is designed for people who want to refresh their backcountry skills or gain an introduction to backcountry skills.

Prerequisites:
A beacon, shovel, and probe are required to participate in the course.
