McCarthy-Johnson SIG only until April 1, 2022.

NOTE: there is a separate all-day snow skills event April 3, 2022 which is a prerequisite for signing up for this overnight.

NOTE: There is a $36 out-of-pocket cost (2 days x $15 per person per day, plus a $6 transaction fee).  Permits and info here.  If this is prohibitive, please discuss privately with leader.

This field trip will focus on introducing basic climbing class students to the basics of snow belays, snow anchors, crevasse rescue, traveling together on a rope, and snow camping.

We will hike in, set up snow camp, practice some snow skills.  Early to bed, early to rise for an alpine start.  We'll start roped up for the first 1000 feet vertical, navigating by headlamp. The payoff is to hopefully catch the sunrise from the rim of the crater.
