Evening indoor workshop to practice steep snow travel techniques, vertical rock safety, avalanche awareness, leave no trace outdoor skills.

  • For Beginners (Getting Started Series)

Seattle Program Center at 6:30 pm

The workshop will begin with a presentation on leave-no-trace outdoor skills presented by a member of the Mountaineers staff.

The middle part of the evening will be entirely hands on, with some on-the-floor ice axe self arrest practice.

Lastly, we will end the evening with a avalanche awareness presentation.

Required Equipment

  • Helmet
  • Ice Axe
  • Hasty Harness and safety line
  • Scrambling boots
  • Comfortable clothes - similar to what you would hike in, but cotton is fine - we won't be going outside.
  • Backpack - with enough gear in it so it weighs the same as you would carry on a cold day in the mountains.  Sufficient weight to simulate real life is the key .
