Meeting Time: Magnuson Park - Kite Hill (or Program Center) at 9 am; expect more details via e-mail

This full-day workshop focuses on rock and snow travel skills during a morning and afternoon session, running approximately 3-hours each with a break for lunch.

Rain or shine, this workshop will take place entirely outdoors at the Seattle Program Center & Magnuson Park's Kite Hill.

During this workshop for rock travel skills we will use the large boulder field, the vertical rock wall and rock slabs to learn / practice techniques for ascending, descending and traversing rock.

On most scramble trips the leader brings a 25 meter rope to use as an emergency aid in assisting down-climbing a short slippery section.  In some cases we simply hold on to the rope with one hand; in other cases we wrap it around our backs; and in other cases we put on a light weight climbing harness and attach it via a short line to the main rope.  At this workshop, we will practice all of those techniques.

Additionally, for snow travel skills we will focus on a hands-on exercise introducing ice axe arrest and snow travel.

Please bring your ice axe and helmet. We will be rolling around on the ground practicing, please dress appropriately.

This workshop starts promptly at 9:00am and runs until approximately 4:00pm.
