The kickoff lecture to the Seattle Alpine Scrambling Course will meet in Goodman A,B,C at the Seattle Program Center at 6:30pm.

This evening workshop is an introduction to the scramble course and an open house / expo style event to meet our instructors and leaders and get an up close look at the gear needed for scrambling. The workshop has two parts.

First we will explain what exactly scrambling is and cover some logistics for the course.  Next we will break out for a hands on exploration and discussion of the gear needed for scrambling. A lot of this gear is common to hiking and backpacking, but we also add in some more technical equipment such as helmets, boots and ice axes! The instructors will bring their scramble packs for show and tell, and you are welcome to bring any gear you have questions about.

Please bring paper/pencil for taking notes. A laptop may be helpful to learn to navigate the course page and mountaineers website. If you want leaders to check any gear you already own, like boots or ice ax, you may bring yours but this is not necessary. We will help you determine proper ice ax length and all the equipment you need  so you are prepared when you go gear shopping.

The workshop starts promptly at 6:30pm and runs until approximately 8:30pm.
