Learn how to convert your favorite meals into a lightweight, non-perishable, and tasty backcountry dish suitable for backpacking, canoe, kayak, or bicycle camping.
Take a quiz to learn what kind of foodie you are and which foods are most appropriate for your style: no-cooking, hot water only, or creative cooking. Taste test dehydrated and freeze-dried foods and learn the difference. Adapt meals for all different dietary preferences, too! Participate in demonstrations of backcountry baking, meal preparation, and how to deal with the realities of dishwashing, cooking equipment, and bear canisters. Participants joining the potluck are encouraged to bring their favorite backcountry meals to share! Raffle will include some interesting backcountry food items you may not have ever tried!
This class will complement the Backpacking Class nutrition segment as well as the City of Olympia Backcountry Foods Class by Dixie
