Adventure Speaker Series- Jim Wilson: Explorations in the Great Basin Desert

Meet the Mountaineers, Potluck and Adventure Speaker Series

Jim Wilson -Explorations in the Great Basin Desert
The Great Basin Desert covers parts of 4 western states. As a result of tectonic forces this
desert has numerous fault block mountain ranges and their corresponding basins. The ranges
are often forested, some of the basins have vast vistas of sage brush and dried lake beds from
ancient inland seas. Experience 40 years of car camping, hiking, climbing, ski tours and hot
springs in an area lightly visited and barely regulated. Areas presented include Steens Mountain
OR, Pine Forest Range NV, Black Rock Desert NV, Ruby Mountains NV, Red Rocks NV, White
Mountains CA., and Death Valley NP.
