Mushrooms of the Pacific Northwest - Field Trip - Brown Creek Campground

Travel with the Olympia Naturalist Committee to Brown Creek Campground to foray for mushrooms. The group will spread out and then reconvene where we will provide expert identification guidance.

Meet in front of McDonald's next to Haggen’s 1313 Cooper Point Road SW on the west side of

Olympia, Meeting time 7:30 a.m. (arrive at 7:15 for a 7:30 departure). Tom Keller, the leader to meet at

this location, will be driving a metallic tan Subaru Forrester. Cell phone: 360-789-5930.

 

In order to sign up for this mushroom foray, you must attend the lecture on August 28.

Required Equipment

Please come prepared and bring the following items.

  • REQUIRED Whistle (This is used for safety communication in the woods)
  • REQUIRED Shoes you can trek through rough terrain in (No sandals or flip flops).
  • Basket or fabric/mesh bag to put your mushrooms in.  (I do not recommend a bucket as your mushrooms will turn to a mushy mess)
  • Pocket knife or mushroom knife for cutting & cleaning mushrooms
  • Small pack to carry your 10 essentials (Survival in the woods is important.)
  • Water
  • Lunch and/or Snack (We’ll have lunch together in between treks)
  • Weather appropriate clothing (Be prepared for rain or cold)
  • Walking stick (Optional)
  • $ A donation to your carpool driver to help offset gas.
