  • For Beginners (Getting Started Series)

Columbian Hall, Lacey, WA 6:30-9:30 PM

This lecture focuses on rock climbing.  Students will have read Chapters, 11, 12, 13, Appendix A - FOTH.  We will dicuss rock climbing techniques and ways to learn how to rock climb.  We will focus on rock anchors, using the acronym SERENE for evaluation.  We will hand out Basic rock climb expectations information and review.  Removing rock protection will be demonstrated, and the role of the belayer will be highlighted.  We will demonstrate PBUS, talk about various rock climb destinations, take a look at rock climbing gear, and hands-on practice will allow students opportunities to practice removing pro.  Upcoming field trips to Cirque climbing gym, Spire rock, and rock weekend will be addressed, as well as optional opportunities for students to practice rock climbing and removing protection.
