This experience is for those looking to improve their backcountry skiing skills. Instructor will tailor the class to meet the needs and desires of students, but most time is typically spend coaching on techniques for skiing snow conditions and terrain found in the backcountry, and the slopes at Meany are ideal for this. Instructor has considerable experience in the backcountry on Alpine Touring gear and can also offer tips on skinning technique, gear and route selection. Students should have Alpine Touring (AT) gear, and be at least strong intermediate skiers with some experience skiing in broken or new snow. (Includes copy of the book Backcountry Skiing: Skills for Ski Touring and Ski Mountaineering, by Volken, Schell and Wheeler, published by The Mountaineers. This course has no scheduled activities.
Bring your own downhill or AT skis, boots and poles! Helmets also recommended.
Skins are not necessary but can be used after class to reach untouched snow! Please take your instructor with you also!
