Intermediate Glacier Travel Field Trip including winter mountaineering experience with snow shelter construction, running belay, advanced crevasse rescue techniques, avalanche safety equipment practice.

We will meet Saturday morning at the  Timberline long term parking lot at 9AM. This is a 4.5 hour drive from Bremerton and we will arrange carpooling prior to the event.

I will relocate the trip to either Mount Rainier or Mount Elinor/Hurricane Ridge in the Olympics based on the weather conditions and forecast.

Required Equipment

  • Ten essentials plus winter camping gear. Bring tent but we will shoot for sleeping in snow caves.
  • Warm clothes and multiple pairs of gloves essential.
  • 2 Pickets with runners.
  • Harness and glacier travel set up of prusiks, sufficient runners and carabiners.
  • Avalanche Gear (beacon, shovel, probe)
  • Snowshoes or skies very likely required to reach the field trip site at the top of the Palmer chairlift.
