Alpine Scrambling Course - Kitsap - Class 3

Lecture: Alpine Scrambling Course

Alpine Scrambling Course - Kitsap - Class 3 - Mountaineers Kitsap Program Center

Snow - That beautiful blanket that changes the mountain environment in majestically inviting ways, yet has some new techniques to mitigate risk and safely travel.

  • For Beginners (Getting Started Series)

6-9 PM. Getting there a little early is a good idea.

We meet in the west side of the building (nearest the large garage doors). Enter through the single walk-in door from the parking lot. (NOTE: The other side of the building is used for other activities)

Snow is great and many would argue that it's the best medium to travel the mountains on. It also comes with a new set of risks to consider and techniques to employ. In this class we'll dive into the winter wonderland blanket - snow. Yes, we will literally dive in!

It's been a while since we met last. Bring all your gear to class. We're going to play with all of it in the classroom.

During the subsequent field trip we won't be doing any rope work. So, there's no need for harnesses. Although, that's not always the case with snow. In the future that is a decision your scramble leader will make for a particular scramble.
