Walking the Wild: Walk Portugal's Rota Vicentina with Sheri Goodwin!

Join Mountaineer, trekking trainer and international trek leader Sheri Goodwin as she shares photos and trip planning info from her trekking adventure along Portugal’s stunning Rota Vicentina trail system that runs along the coast and inland hills of southwest Portugal.

In this nineteenth event in our Walking the Wild series featuring extraordinary adventures on foot by Mountaineers in the wilds of the world, trekking trainer and international trek leader Sheri Goodwin will share gorgeous photos and trip planning info from her latest trekking adventure along Portugal’s popular Rota Vicentina trail system that runs along the west coast of Southern Portugal.

Experience Sheri’s journey as she takes you through the best of the Fisherman’s Trail and the inland Historical Way.  The well-marked Fisherman’s Trail runs along sandy cliff tops looking out on pristine beaches and the wild Atlantic Ocean.  Diverse plant life that remarkably survives amidst harsh ocean and soil conditions grows atop these cliffs.  Perfume-like aromas and colorful flowers delight the senses along the way.  Storks find their home atop sea stacks and cliff edges.  Fishermen from the small villages in route stand atop sheer cliffs throwing their line out in hopes of catching dinner for their family or to sell to the local restaurants.  The inland Historical Way weaves through Eucalyptus, Pine and Cork trees heading to medieval hill villages with historic windmills and even a 10th century Moorish castle.  Farmland and friendly farm animals eager for attention become increasingly prominent along the way.

If you enjoy sun, sand, ocean breezes, aromatic flowers and the occasional inland trail, this trek may just be the one for you.  Come learn the ins and outs of Portugal’s coast line and inland trails, as well as where to stay along the way, food options, packing tips, training tips and more!

The event will be held on Zoom, and will begin promptly at 7PM and end at 8:30PM with time for Q&A at the end.

An advance ticket is required for you to receive the zoom link to join the presentation.  You can get a free ticket, or choose a $10 or $20 contribution to help the Mountaineers' hiking and backpacking programs weather these difficult financial times!    Ticket sales for this event will open at 7PM on the evening of February 24, 2021.  We hope you will join us!
