Basic Snowshoeing Equivalency - Foothills - 2016-17

Snowshoeing Course

Basic Snowshoeing Equivalency

This course is for granting Basic Snowshoeing equivalency to those with previous training and/or basic snowshoeing experience.

COVID-19: Learn about our most up-to-date guidance for participants and leaders on our COVID-19 Response page. All participants and leaders must agree to the COVID-19 Code of Conduct before participating in this Mountaineers course.

Mountaineers members with previous training and/or the appropriate level of basic snowshoeing experience can apply for Basic Snowshoeing equivalency, which will allow you to bypass the Basic Snowshoeing course. This process involves an application, a short phone interview, and if approved, an equivalency fee. The review process can take a few weeks depending on volunteer availability to review your application, schedule and conduct your interview, and submit recommendations to the snowshoe program Chair.

To apply for equivalency, locate the "Go to application" link found in the "Register Participant" section, on the right of this page. Complete the online application to provide details of your snowshoeing experience and avalanche safety education.

By selecting Foothills as your home branch, your application will be forwarded to the Foothills Snowshoeing Committee for response.

In addition, you will need to attend the Avalanche Awareness course, a free 90-minute seminar that is an introduction to understanding and avoiding avalanches. The Avalanche Awareness course can be taken either before or after your application but must be completed for Basic Snowshoeing equivalency.
