September Hikes: 4 to 8 miles, 750 to 2,000 feet gain - Squak Mountain: Bullitt Fireplace Access

Hike to view the massive fireplace and foundation of the former Bullitt family cabin, and continue on to Squak Central Peak. This counts toward your monthly required GoHike course hike for September.

Meet at May Valley Trailhead at 8:30 am. After introductions and discussion of group goals and trail conditions, we will plan to start hiking by 8:45 am. Goal is to be back by 12:30 pm or so.

The park is located just south of Issaquah. Exit I-90 at Exit 15 and turning southbound on Issaquah-Renton Road, drive 4 miles, then turn left on the May Valley Road.  Drive 2.5 miles to the Squak Mountain State Park parking lot (21500 May Valley Road) on the left. Discover Pass required.

From the trailhead, the Bullitt Fireplace Trail heads steadily uphill. Along the way we will pass signed junctions with several other trails. Stay on the Bullitt Fireplace Trail and it will take you to the cabin site.

Continue on the Bullitt Fireplace Trail another 0.3 miles beyond the fireplace and reach a junction with the Central Peak Trail, where we will turn right. In an additional 0.3 miles, with about 200 feet of elevation gain, reach the 2024-foot "summit" of Central Peak. Unfortunately, there is not a traditional view.
