GoHike Urban Walks are outings of at least two miles or longer that take place on city or suburban streets, parks or greenbelts. GoHike Pace Walks are low-stress urban walks designed to help you determine where you are in terms of gear, the pace range: 1.5 -2.5 mph. These trips are designed to assist you in developing your goals for conditioning and hiking, so that you can determine what level of walks or hikes and pace would be the best fit for you to sign up for - no pressure, no judgment!

Paradise Valley Conservation Area is off a well-traveled road and for some of the hike, you can still hear cars go by. Cell service is available. This park shares some trails with horses and mountain bikers. Please expect that we may come across both, but likely just mountain bikers from time to time. It can also be very muddy after rain, so be prepared with sturdy footwear that is either water resistant or water proof. I'll have more details in the 'hello hiker' email I'll send out about a week before the hike.

I'll start off slow and roll in different paces to give you an idea of where your starting point is and help you to determine your trajectory and goals for the course!

Goals:

  • To explore a few different paces to get a baseline idea of where you are.
  • Foster community and belonging.
  • Lead and learn in a collaborative spirit.
  • Foster compassion, understanding and curiosity with one another.
  • Have fun, be safe and enjoy one another's company.

Expectations:

  • That you arrive with a growth mindset to determine a baseline starting point for the course.
  • Commitment to arrive on time at the trailhead, prepared and ready to be social and enjoy the hike.
  • Commitment to communicate with me for any concerns and/or questions before and during the trip.
  • Commitment to having fun.
  • The group will stay together. This means seeing a head in front and in back of you at all times.

Style:

  • Through actions and words, I lead through an inclusive lens.
  • I foster community within the group.
  • I lead a slower to moderate pace, allowing for flexibility between the two.

More to come in the 'hello hiker' email that will be sent out a week before the trip.
