  • Easy
  • Mileage: 7.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 1,700 ft
  • Pace: 1.5 mph

Meet at 8:30am in the North Bend Safeway parking lot close to the tall Safeway/O'Reilly Auto Parts/Chase Bank sign in the parking lot. It's close to I-90 exit 31.

There will be the option of either consolidating cars going to the trailhead or driving yourself.  The road leading to the trailhead has many potholes, so a higher clearance vehicle and a Northwest Forest Pass  will be needed for those driving to the trailhead

From Seattle, drive east on I-90 to exit 47 (Asahel Curtis/Denny Creek). Turn right from the off-ramp and continue 0.25 mile, then turn left on Forest Road 5590. You'll find the parking area to your right in 0.3 mile. Toilets are located on the north side of the parking area.

Mod/strenuous 7.5 mile hike, and will go at a moderate pace with plenty of rest breaks as needed, and some pauses to enjoy the plants, flowers and views...and nibble huckleberries if they are still around.

Starting in a forest near Humpback creek we will pass a pretty tumbling waterfall, then climb through sections of wildflowers and talus slopes to some nice mountain views before coming to the lake.  We will eat at the lake , relax a bit, then hike back to the trailhead.

For safety we will all hike as a group so please assess before hand whether this distance/elevation gain/pace will suit you before registering.

Bring lunch and plenty of water and sturdy hiking shoes.  May swim at lake if weather is good.
