May Hikes: 3 to 5.5 miles, 300 to 1,250 feet gain - Saint Edward State Park

This hike applies toward your GoHike Series graduation!

  • Easy
  • Mileage: 4.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 700 ft
  • Pace: 2.0mph

8:00 AM Saint Edward State Park parking area. Discover Pass is required.

For this GoHike series hike, we will be stringing a few trails together in the beautiful and historical Saint Edward State Park to celebrate Mother's Day. I will be targeting a distance of 4 to 5 miles and a pace of 2 miles per hour as we wind through a dense canopy of Douglas fir, western red cedar, western hemlock, bigleaf maple, Pacific madrona, and cottonwood down to the edge of Lake Washington (and then back up again!). The trails are well maintained but narrow in places with roots and medium sized step ups/downs in some areas. There are clean restrooms at the trailhead too which is an added bonus of this park and trail system.

Special Note on Elevation: The elevation gain comes all at once, each time we go back up the trail from the water's edge and is approximately ~350 gain in each push (for a total estimated gain of ~700). Please note that the elevation gain is approximate based on trail notes and previous hike recordings I have. I will be doing a scoping hike ahead of time to get an exact measurement and will update the listing ahead of the final date so everyone can ensure they are comfortable with the hike distance, elevation gain, and pace.
