Lightweight Backpack Food Planning and Preparation - Online Seminar - Online Classroom

In this virtual seminar, learn how to plan a tasty and lightweight trail menu that will meet your nutrition and energy needs to succeed on your trip; we'll also leave you with a lot of methods and recipes and planning tools to help you eat well on the trail with minimum cost, weight, cooking time and cleanup (and with foods you LOVE to eat!) DO NOT REGISTER HERE IF YOU PLAN TO TAKE THE Backpacking Building Blocks COURSE - this seminar will be free to 2022 B3 students but only if you register for the course (link below).

  • For Beginners (Getting Started Series)

The session will be run on zoom and will start at 6:30PM and go till 9PM.  The zoom link will be sent out to registered participants the day before the session.

Want to enjoy yummy nourishing food on a backpack trip with minimal weight, prep time, cleanup or smelly bulky trash to pack out? Want an alternative to the high sodium and high expense of pre-packaged dehydrated meals? Want tips and tools for planning your backpacking menus to maintain your energy and avoid the ‘bonk’?  And how to 'leave no trace' while doing it?

This virtual seminar will include  tried-and-true ideas, tools and recipes for planning and prep before your trip, food for the trail and food prep at camp, including a couple of videos going into a number of specific examples of breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner options. You will also get some resources for ordering inexpensive dehydrated meals and will show you how to prepare your own from your favorite recipes. This class is for new backpackers and also for experienced ones who are ready to improve their food weight and enjoyment on the trail!

A small fee is charged to help the Mountaineers maintain their mission to get adults and youth outside and conserve our wild spaces during these difficult times!   Students in the 2022 Backpacking Building Blocks course will have the opportunity to register for this seminar for free but to get the free version you must register for the B3 course.

Note that this is NOT a 'trail cooking' class!
