Backpacking Building Blocks Student-Only Backpack - North Fork Skokomish River

This field trip will give B3 students the opportunity to try out gear and new skills on an easy overnight backpack with an experienced mentor. Preference for members of Amae and Brian's mentor group and will open to others if there is room.

Meet at the backpacker parking lot at 9:30 am.  It is to the right of the ranger station after you pull in past the entrance station.

The pace will be relaxed and easy, averaging 1.5 mph.

The first day will be a relaxed day, hiking from the Trailhead to Camp.  It is a very flat 3 mile hike out of Staircase area in Olympic National Park up to Spike Camp, around 1,000 feet of gradual elevation.  Day 2 will be an optional day hike to Flapjack Lakes, 7.5 miles and 2800 feet of elevation. On Day 3, we will pack up camp and hike 3 miles back out to the trailhead. 

This trip will help fulfill the requirement of a 2-night backpacking trip. There should be bear wires at Spike Camp or bring a bear can for food storage. Leader will confirm bear wire status prior to trip. Camping fees are $16 per person total ($8 per night).
