Backpacking Building Blocks Student-Only Backpack - Indian Heaven via Thomas Lake

This field trip is a two night backpack trip for B3 students with an experienced mentor. Indian Heaven wilderness is full of lakes and huckleberries!

We will meet at the Thomas Lake trailhead at 1pm.  There are several routes to get there:  see below.  It is approximately 5 hr drive from the Kent area, so there will be an opportunity to form carpools, likely leaving around 8am.

 We will  hike 4 miles to our campsite at Junction Lake passing seven other beautiful alpine lakes and ripe huckleberry fields along the way.  We will camp 2 nights here.

On Monday we'll have an optional loop day hike past eight alpine lakes that will involve  7.2 miles and 1000 feet elevation gain   On this day hike, we'll have a trail lunch at one of the lakes and then take time for a swim, if the weather permits.

Plan to filter water from Junction Lake and bring a  UrSac or  bear canister to secure your food.

Camp meals will include Sunday dinner, Monday breakfast (which will include delicious huckleberry pancakes), lunch and dinner; Tuesday breakfast, then we will break camp, hike back to trailhead and drive back home.
