
Field trip: Backpacking Building Blocks (B3) Course
Backpacking Building Blocks Student-Only Backpack - Glacier Basin (Mount Rainier)
Friday afternoon we will start at the Glacier Basin Trailhead in the White River Campground, backpacking 3.3 mi and 1770’ of gain to make camp at Glacier Basin Camp. Saturday we will leave our camp and dayhike (with lighter packs!) a 10 mi. loop, ascending a total of 3,400’ and descending 3,400’ via the Burroughs Mountain trail. We will return to Glacier Basin Camp on Saturday night. Sunday we will return 3.3 mi, -1700’ to the Glacier Basin TH by noon. This field trip will give B3 students the opportunity to try out gear and new skills on a 2 night backpack with an experienced mentor.

Meet at Glacier Basin Trailhead at 12:45 pm Friday with packs ready to hit the trail at 1 pm. We will return to the Trailhead by 12pm Sunday.
We will hike about 1.5-2mph as a group.
Covid Regulations - All participants must carry a mask/face-covering and hand sanitizer. We will maintain 6’ distance from one another and avoid gear sharing. Any participant exposed to or suspecting virus symptoms must cancel from the trip.
Gear and food planning details will be provided by the leader in advance of the trip.
Water source and Bear Poles available near camp. Backcountry toilet will be available near camp, but prepare for Leave No Trace Toileting while hiking on trail.
National Park Entry Fee ($30/week) or America the Beautiful Pass required
