Driving directions per WTA:
From Quilcene, drive south on Highway 101 for 11 miles to Brinnon, turning right at milepost 306 onto Dosewallips Road.
From Shelton, drive north on US 101 for 41 miles and turn left, 1 mile beyond Dosewallips State Park.
Proceed 8.5 miles to the new vehicle road end. Parking is on the roadside and can be backed up considerably. No toilets available.
Parking Pass: Northwest Forest Pass
Priority for this trip is for the Summit Sistahs B3 mentor group, but others may join if there is space available
We will hike along the old Dose Road bed with a gentle grade that passes through old growth forest, rhododendrons and lush meadows. There is one washout section where a detour trail takes us up a couple of switchbacks around the washout then back down to the abandoned road. At 2.7 miles is Elkhorn Campground where we will have a snack and short break. We will continue on to the Campground and Ranger Station at 6.5 miles. There is ample camping room with food lockers for safe and dry storage, so you do not need to bring a bear cannister.
Water is able to be filtered from the nearby river.
This hike will follow the Mountaineers hiking guidelines for COVID-19 that apply on the date of this trip.
All participants will be required to have a face covering ready to pull up at the trailhead, and will be asked to be familiar with and follow the Mountaineers Covid-19 guidelines for trip.
For the group's safety, every participant is asked to commit to conservative covid behavior prior to the trip
