Backpacking Building Blocks Student-Only Backpack - Baker River & East Baker Lake
This field trip will give B3 students the opportunity to try out gear and new skills on an easy overnight backpack with two experienced mentors. - Priority given to Liz and Christina's B3 mentor group.

We will meet at 8:00 am sharp at East Baker Lake Trailhead to go over a few things and be ready to hit boots to trail no later than 8:30!

Although the trip states 13 miles one way, we won't be going that far. The intent is to hike about 6.5 miles to Silver Creek Camp. From there we can set up camp, and decide if we want to hike with a lighter load a little further or remain at camp. If we remain at camp, then the entire RT will be about 13 miles.

Required Equipment
In addition to the 10 essentials, remember to consider a battery pack for your phone, something to do as in a book, crossword, etc, as we will have some downtime to play in the water and relax at camp if we choose to.
- Navigation: map, compass, altimeter, GPS device, personal locator beacon (PLB) or satellite messenger
- Headlamp: plus extra batteries
- Sun protection: sunglasses, sun-protective clothes and sunscreen
- First aid: including foot care and insect repellent (as needed)
- Knife: plus a gear repair kit
- Fire: matches, lighter, tinder and/or stove
- Shelter: carried at all times (can be a light emergency bivy)
- Extra food: Beyond the minimum expectation
- Extra water: Beyond the minimum expectation
- Extra clothes: Beyond the minimum expectation
