BACKPACKING BUILDING BLOCKS BASICS LECTURE 1 - Online Classroom

This lecture is one of two required for graduation from the B3 course, introducing basic skills and gear important to comfort and safety during a backpack trip. WE WILL CONDUCT THIS SESSION VIA AN INTERACTIVE ZOOM VIDEO CONFERENCE.

  • For Beginners (Getting Started Series)

The program starts at 6:30PM sharp and ends at 9PM.   The best engagement in the session will come if you can join on a laptop or desktop computer, so that you can see the presentation and participate in breakout sessions with your mentor group.   You would also be able to see the presentation and participate in breakout sessions from your smartphone or tablet if you install and logon through the zoom app.

Please register for this session in order to receive the zoom link to participate.  The link will be emailed to you in the days before the session.

This lecture starts with an overview of the B3 course philosophy and core components;  we then review how to pack based on your trip objective and expected conditions, including how to develop a packing checklist.  The remainder of the session covers the basics of clothing and footwear selection for backpacking, socks and foot care, hydration, water purification, your cook system, food and food preparation.  We will periodically spit into small groups for a deeper dive into the options in each area and how to decide what you need.
