This lecture, required for graduation from the B3 course, covers skills and gear important to comfort and safety on the trail during a backpack trip. NOTE: Students wishing to join a mentor group will need to attend this session to finalize their assignment and meet their mentor and group.

Meet at the KCLS Service Center @ 6:30pm. Session will last until 9PM.
This lecture introduces students to the concepts behind managing pack weight to balance comfort at camp with comfort on the trail. It then covers clothing and footwear selection for backpacking, socks and foot care, first aid kits, sanitation, hydration, food for the trail, pacing, trail hazards and navigation, and selecting a backpack.
